Bourbon Barbecue Sauce Recipe

Any homemade BBQ sauce recipe should be sweet, tangy, and savoury with a spicy kick, and this bourbon barbecue sauce recipe is all of these things - and more!

It doesn't really matter which bourbon you use, it can easily become a homemade version of Jack Daniels BBQ sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Bourbon Whiskey - e.g. Jack Daniels, Wild Turkey, Jim Beam, whatever - use your favorite.

  • 1 cup cider vinegar

  • 1 cup tomato ketchup

  • 1 cup molasses

  • 1 big onion, very finely chopped - just blitz it in a food processor.

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tbsp Tabasco sauce

Method

Put all the ingredients in a pan and bring it to the boil. Then turn down the heat and simmer for 20 - 30 minutes to thicken slightly.

Grill or barbecue steak, chicken or pork (tenderloin is my favourite for this sauce) and brush the bourbon BBQ sauce on near the end of cooking.

serve with more of the sauce on the side as a dip or dip the pieces of meat whole into the remaining sauce in the pan to completely coat it, and then serve it dripping in sauce.
